What is Digital Marketing and Who Does it?

Digital Marketing is a necessary component of businesses in the 21st century. It has become more and more common in business to be able to promote and communicate effectively in a slightly different way to ordinary marketing.

Digital Marketing is a term for all marketing done online. Businesses leverage digital channels such as Google, social media, email, and their websites to connect with their current and prospective customers.

We spend much more time online since the dawn of the internet, making digital (online) marketing more effective than traditional (offline) marketing. The fact that marketing is all about communication, doing it online is fast, effective, in real-time, and can reach a vast audience around the world from the moment its posted.

Marketing has always been about connecting with your audience in the right place and at the right time. Today, that means that you need to meet them where they are already spending time: on the internet. Digital marketing can branch off into different channels here, such as professionally written content, online videos, interacting through social media, or pay per click ads. Connecting with your audience is essential in this day and age, as communication is global and fast, so companies are now competing with each other to express themselves in a positive, personal way.

In this case, digital marketing is much more effective than traditional marketing in that it facilitates interaction with the target audience. Many people find it very useful and fun to communicate with other people, or even companies, via social media, such as Twitter. This kind of interaction becomes much friendlier, in the same way friends communicate with other friends on their social media, therefore companies have picked up on this method and communicate with their target audience in informal, friendly ways rather than the sterile, corporate method of communication.

More and more companies are implementing the use of digital marketing, since the internet has become the go-to source of information, especially among young people. But digital marketing doesn’t just have to be about professionally written content, it is also about telling stories through interaction and using a variety of platforms.

Utilising LinkedIn is an excellent form of digital marketing, where businesses and benefit from such online presence to gain warm business leads, subsequently becoming profitable business. B2B platforms allow companies to work with each other, to do business and grow substantially. Digital marketing through LinkedIn has allowed many companies to write professional-looking profiles which catch the eye of potential clients.

Interaction between a company and a client has always been important, but now it is essential. The world has changed and, in a way, become more close-knit through globalisation and the internet. People are more aware of what’s going on in the world and businesses are more visible to them. Digital marketing is a way to interact and develop personality in order to sell their given products or services, and subsequently grow as a good, profitable business.
