Stuffocating …..

October 4, 2016 |  by  |  Linkedin Blog

Given that shops are full of Xmas gifts and decorations, one could be forgiven for thinking that the season for stuffocating is upon us.

Professor Sonja Lyubomirsky says that the problem with buying stuff is that the happiness associated with it is relatively short lived.

This is in stark contrast to experiences which create much longer lasting and happier memories.

Her advice for making happiness last, and to avoid what she calls “hedonic adaptation” and the vacuousness of consumerism, is to focus on having,

  1. Great relationships which include at least one or two very close relationships.
  2. A purpose in life which drives you to get out of bed each day and make a difference.
  3. A variety of peak experiences which make your heart sing. This could be anything from singing to skydiving, or cooking to kung fu. It’s really whatever works for you.

So there may indeed, only be three steps to heaven.

Dumb says to Dumber:

“Have you seen the news headlines? Three Cliff Walkers have fallen to their death”

“Unbelievable,” says Dumber. “I can’t believe that they had the same name.”

Live big & love deep.
