LinkedIn for Business

You’ll find that there are many business owners and professionals who use LinkedIn as a platform for business growth. It’s a brilliant opportunity for anyone in the professional world to establish connections with others and advertise themselves. Our independent LinkedIn consultancy team provides LinkedIn training to anyone who wants to use LinkedIn professionally to allow them leverage LinkedIn’s features as so many others have.

Your profile needs to contain as much professional information about you as possible. You’ve got a large number of different sections, and while you won’t necessarily be able to fill them all out, aim to fill out as many as you can, as fully as you can. Your summary, experience and education sections are especially important, and you can hire a LinkedIn expert to write these sections with you, making sure they are search engine optimised so that they appear on as many relevant searches as possible. It is always important to take a professional looking profile picture, since a picture makes your profile much more likely to be viewed.

Share updates with your connections, to make sure you keep interactions going. You can post your business advertisements, but make sure you’re not doing that alone, as LinkedIn’s community is looking for more than just hard selling. So, you should also try and post interesting content such as articles on trending or relevant topics to discuss with your connections. Make sure you interact with them on their updates as well, to let them know you’re interested in them. You can also use sponsored updates which, for a price, can be posted to people’s activity feeds even if they’re not your connections. LinkedIn speaker and expert Dr Mark D Yates believes that this price is well worth it, as LinkedIn allows you to hone in on very specific types of people, such as age, location, job title and industry, making it one of the best ways of targeting exactly the right people.

Set up a company page alongside your personal profile, and gather an audience on it. Promote the page to your connections and you can use sponsored posts to get the word out, and you should also make sure everyone else involved in the business and is on LinkedIn promotes the page too. You should aim to post daily updates and interact with your audience here. Updates can be posts to your website or company specials, etc. You can also post out articles, similar to your personal page’s updates, but more company advertisements are to be expected on this page. You’re also given the opportunity to showcase your company here, so write an interesting description of what you do. Similar to with your personal profile, you can edit this and move it around however you want.

Join groups on LinkedIn to be a part of a small community of people you want to make business connections with or who are your target audience. There are many groups on LinkedIn, so you’re likely to find one that suits your needs, but if you don’t then you can always create one. Groups provide you with the chance to reach and connect to a lot more people easily. You can connect to people in the same group as you without the need for contact details, so interact with the group by posting in it and engage in group discussions. Your number of contacts and contact requests will go up easily and quickly this way.

You can always ask to ‘get introduced’ to the mutual connections you have with your connections. You also appear higher on searches if you have more mutual connections with the searcher. So, the larger your network, the more likely you are to get even more connections in the right area. You can also use the advanced search feature to find people using search terms such as job title, company name, location, industry and education. Through our independent LinkedIn consultancy team, you can hire a LinkedIn expert to find you specific leads in the area of your choosing, so you can send InMails to people and connect to them.

Once you’ve got the hang of LinkedIn’s usual features with the help of our LinkedIn training courses, you might want to consider trying LinkedIn premium. Dr Mark D Yates believes that premium’s features are extremely useful to businesses and anyone else using LinkedIn to increase their exposure. Your profile will stand out, appearing twice as large as non-premium users’ profiles on searches, with a larger header containing more information and a bigger profile picture. You’ll also be able to see everyone who has viewed your profile, not just the last 5, and get insights into how to increase your exposure. You’re also given 4 additional search features to hone in on the right people with. Perhaps most crucially, you get InMail credits that allow you to send InMails to people that aren’t in your contact list. This allows you to reach out to even more people, so make a good impression and your InMails will expand your network even further.
