LinkedIn – Back To the Future with Advanced Search Benefits

On December 10th 2012 Jeff Weiner CEO of Linkedin published that one of the most frequently asked questions he receives these days, is what the future holds for LinkedIn. He stated;

“the answer depends greatly on the time horizon. Over the next few years, you’ll continue to see us innovate across our core value propositions for members in the areas of professional identity (e.g. the LinkedIn Profile, Search, and Contacts); professional insights (e.g. the Home Page, Slideshare, LinkedIn Today, Groups and Influencers).”

With over 187 million members (growing at roughly two per second), 2.8 million active company profiles, 1 million professionally oriented groups, and a wide array of other valuable assets in place and still to come, the ‘Advanced Search’ facility is one area which most Linkedin members neglect, when writing and updating their personal & business profile.

Linkedin has clearly smashed through the Tipping Point and it looks highly likely that if they continue their current level of new member recruitment, they will pass the 200 million member mark in the first quarter of 2013.

Although this is fantastic news for Linkedin and its members, this is bad news for people who don’t show up high in the returned Linkedin search results.

Fear not. Every single member of Linkedin is presented with precisely the same opportunities for gaining maximum leverage from optimising their Linkedin profile scripts from a search engine optimistation (SEO) perspective.

We live in an age of ‘technology driven’ instant gratification and people demand free information at the speed of a Google online search. The same is true for Linkedin. Most of the savvy business decision making connections utilise LinkedIn’s ‘Advanced Search’ facility to find people fast and to identify business ‘due diligence’ intelligence.

LinkedIn’s Advanced Search facility is one of the best I’ve ever tested, so it’s just down to the individual member to incorporate key words and key phrases into their Linkedin profile scripts.
Even though it is LinkedIn’s policy of enforcing that members only connect with people they already know, this does not dictate that people you don’t know won’t purchase your products, or retain you for your professional services.

By its very nature of ‘wildfire growth’ Linkedin enables business to be conducted globally as well as nationally and regionally.

If people can’t find you super fast on Linkedin then guess what?

They will find your competitors, because they will have optimised their business profiles to ensure they come up high in the search engine results. If your competitors offer a comparable service to you, then say goodbye to your new business opportunities.
