LBM: The Beginning
Ideas are formed, enemies are made but a spilt coffee is how business gets done.
Dr. Mark walked straight into the internet coffee shop, having followed his nose and the growling need within him for mochachino. He just was not himself without a hit of the delicious chocolate coffee. However, today as he waited in the queue, there was always a queue, his mind seemed to wander.
His eyes seemed to wander but it was perfect, perfect timing and the perfect moment in his life. The fates were aligning and something big was in store for him. His eyes landed upon the nearest computer screen only to see LinkedIn standing there proud for all to see. However, in that moment it seemed to call to Dr. Mark and only to him.
“I do this all the time, my connections are through the roof” He mumbled to himself as he shuffled to the coffee counter, finally reaching his turn. Now he was on a mission, for much more than his coffee. Quickly gathering up his caffeine fix he found a table as close as he could to that precious computer screen. He needed to know more about this ‘LinkedIn’ and just what it could provide him with or more importantly what he could provide them with.
Sip after sip of his coffee, he gained more intel until, like a lightning bolt, an opportunity presented itself before him. There was a conference in the USA all about the LinkedIn platform and what it really meant in this new technological era. He had to go, there were not arguments about it, no other pathways that he could have travelled. He had to attend the conference.
How? Well with the fates smiling upon him, anything was possible. Swiftly jotting down all the details he would need for the conference, his mind was set. Guzzling down the last of his mochachino his body was buzzing with excitement at the prospects before him.
And just like that he was on his way to a new future, a new pathway into an exciting direction.
A few weeks later and he had arrived at the American LinkedIn conference with a clear mind set of just what he wanted; as much business information as feasibly possible. Nonetheless, the first thing he needed to do was to get his mochachino fix. It was the perfect way to start an important day, but of course so many other business minded people had the same thought.
Finding himself in the familiar circumstance of being in a queue, all he could do was wait. Every step closer he took to the delicious chocolaty coffee goodness another conference member joined the back of the queue. He could hear the person behind him growing frustrated as just how long it was taking the gain that liquid caffeine life.
Finally it was his turn, standing there letting every drip land within his cup. Mark was going nowhere without every last drop, even with the frustration growing behind him. The eager person behind him was just too close, or perhaps Mark was just too elated but either way disaster struck.
His coffee flew everywhere, all over the papers the man held. Now this action was a disaster to begin with but it soon turned catastrophic. The frustrated male was no other than the conference speaker. No amount of apologises could fix the coffee sodden speech notes now. Mark could not just turn and walk away from the speaker, he was who Mark had come to see and fate had them literally bumping into each other.
With an offer to help piece the speech back together happily and gratefully the pair went off to work on it together. It was an opportunity that could not be missed; to actually help the speaker perfect his notes once again.
Mark was ecstatic to gain first-hand knowledge, one on one with the head of the entire LinkedIn conference. The time they spent together Mark picked the speakers brain, gaining every shred of information and advice he possibly could.
A few years later…
There he was, head of his own company utilising every piece of information about LinkedIn and social media marketing he had gained. Even gaining some more useful business knowledge as the years went by.
Stepping out of his office he looks around at the few staff he had, his cogs turning with ideas. This company needed to go to the next level. Bigger and better things on the horizon. A small but dedicated staff around him, they all worked hard on finding leads and gaining new connections.
They just needed that one big client, the one that would change everything for them and the business. Just like a spark of fate his phone began to ring…
Could this be the big business client they have been searching for. Or perhaps, just another cold caller trying to sell some PPI insurance?
