LinkedIn – Tips to Avoid IDK Notices

When trying to expand your professional network on LinkedIn, you need to be careful of the amount of invites you send out to people. Most people start off by connecting with LIONS (LinkedIn Open Networkers). This is because they are looking to expand the 1st, 2nd & 3rd level connections. By sending too many invites, LinkedIn will class you as a spammer.

The main thing you need to avoid, is sending numerous connection requests in any one time to people who are not LIONS, and people you have never spoken too. This is because they have an option to decline your connection request & also respond to LinkedIn with an IDK (I don’t know this person) response.

Once this has happened a handful of times, LinkedIn will give you a warning about sending out connection requests to people you do not know. Should you receive another IDK response after this warning, LinkedIn will restrict your account so you can no longer send invitations to connect without knowing the other users email address.

Tough Talk

Only send invitations to connect to people that you know, or if they are LIONS. Getting your account restricted may make your chances of moving up in the rankings drop dramatically, however it will hinder your networking capability.

Tool Tip

In the event that your account becomes restricted, you can visit the LinkedIn Help Center, alternatively you can visit this link; https://help.linkedin.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1386/kw/restrict to unrestrict your account. Note, this will only work for the first time that your account becomes restricted, after that you will have to contact LinkedIn directly to resolve your account restriction.
